Clotrimazole Cream IP 1% w/w 15gmClotrimazole Cream IP 1% w/w 15gm

Product Description

Clotrimazole Cream IP 1% w/w is an antifungal topical medication used to treat a variety of fungal skin infections. It comes in a 15g tube for external application to the affected skin.

Uses

Treatment of fungal and yeast infections on the skin, including:

  • Athlete's foot (tinea pedis): Itchy, burning, and scaly skin on the feet, especially between the toes.

  • Ringworm (tinea corporis): Red, scaly, ring-shaped rash on the skin.

  • Jock itch (tinea cruris): Itchy, red, and flaky rash in the groin area.

  • Fungal nappy rash: Yeast infections cause rash in the diaper area of infants.

How it works

Clotrimazole Cream IP 1% is a broad-spectrum antifungal belonging to the imidazole class. It works by targeting the cell membrane of fungi, disrupting their ability to maintain structure and leading to their death. Specifically, it inhibits ergosterol production, causing the fungal cell membrane to become permeable and leaky.

Benefits

Effectively treats a wide range of common fungal skin and yeast infections.

  • Reduces itching, irritation, redness, and inflammation, promoting faster healing and skin recovery.

  • Helps prevent the spread of infection when used as directed.

How to use

Wash your hands before and after applying the cream to prevent the spread of infection.

  • Clean and dry the affected area: Wash the infected skin and surrounding area with mild soap and water, then gently pat dry with a clean towel. Ensure the area is completely dry, as moisture can encourage fungal growth.

  • Spread a thin layer: Dispense a small amount onto your fingertip and apply a thin, even layer to the infected skin and the immediate surrounding area.

  • Massage gently: Rub the cream into the skin until fully absorbed.

  • Frequency and duration: Apply two to three times a day, or as directed by your healthcare professional. Continue for the full recommended duration (typically 2-4 weeks), even if symptoms improve, to prevent recurrence.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

  • Skin irritation (redness, itching, or stinging).

  • Burning sensation upon application.

  • Dryness or flaking of the skin.

  • Blistering.

Report any persistent or severe symptoms to your doctor.

Safety Advice

For external use only: Apply to the skin only. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, or nose. Do not ingest.

  • Do not stop prematurely: Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed, even if symptoms improve.

  • Avoid tight bandages: Do not cover the treated area with tight or airtight dressings, as this can trap moisture and worsen the infection. Use loose-fitting, clean clothing.

  • Consult your doctor: If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have underlying conditions, seek medical advice before use.

  • Contraindications: Do not use if you have hypersensitivity to Clotrimazole or other imidazole antifungals.

  • Drug Interactions: Rare for topical use; inform your doctor about other topical medications to avoid irritation.

  • Consult a pediatrician for use in infants or children.

Storage Conditions

  • Store at a temperature below 86°F (30°C).

  • Protect from light and moisture.

  • Keep out of reach of children.

FAQs

What is Clotrimazole Cream IP 1% used for?

Clotrimazole cream is used to treat a variety of common fungal and yeast skin infections. This includes:

  • Athlete's foot (tinea pedis)
  • Ringworm (tinea corporis)
  • Jock itch (tinea cruris)
  • Fungal nappy rash
  • Fungal sweat rash (intertrigo)
  • Pityriasis versicolor

How does Clotrimazole Cream work?

Clotrimazole works by stopping the growth of the fungi that cause the infection. It does this by damaging the fungal cell membrane, which causes the cell's contents to leak out and the fungus to die.

How long does it take to work?

You may notice an improvement in symptoms like itching and soreness within a few days. However, it is essential to continue the full course of treatment, which is typically 2 to 4 weeks, to ensure the infection is completely cleared.

Can the cream be stopped when symptoms improve?

No, the cream should be used for the entire recommended treatment duration, even if symptoms disappear. Halting treatment prematurely may result in the infection coming back.

What if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you recall.. However, if the next dose is almost due, skip the missed dose and continue the regular schedule. Avoid applying additional medicine to compensate for a missed dose..

Are there side effects?

Some users may experience mild, localized side effects such as stinging, itching, or redness at the application site. Severe allergic reactions are rare but require immediate medical attention.

Can this be used for infections on the scalp or nails?

No, this cream is not effective for fungal infections of the scalp or nails. These infections often require oral antifungal medication prescribed by a doctor.

Is Clotrimazole Cream safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

For topical application, Clotrimazole is considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but you should always consult a doctor before use. Avoid applying the cream to the breast area (nipple) if breastfeeding.

What should be done if symptoms do not improve?

If symptoms do not improve after 2 to 4 weeks of consistent treatment, or if they worsen, a doctor should be consulted for a re-evaluation of the condition.

How should Clotrimazole Cream be stored?

Store the cream at room temperature, between 20°C and 25°C (68°F and 77°F), away from excess heat and moisture. Keep it in its original, tightly closed container and out of the reach of children.
