Esomeprazole 40mg (Enteric-Coated) & Domperidone 30mg (Sustained Release) Capsules IPEsomeprazole 40mg (Enteric-Coated) & Domperidone 30mg (Sustained Release) Capsules IPEsomeprazole 40mg (Enteric-Coated) & Domperidone 30mg (Sustained Release) Capsules IP

Product Description

Esomeprazole 40 mg (Enteric-Coated) & Domperidone 30 mg (Sustained Release) Capsules IP combine two gastrointestinal agents used to treat acid-related disorders.

Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces stomach acid production by irreversibly inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme in gastric parietal cells. Domperidone is a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist that enhances gastrointestinal motility and accelerates gastric emptying, helping relieve nausea and vomiting.

This combination is effective in managing gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, peptic ulcers, and related symptoms caused by excess acid and delayed gastric emptying.

Uses

  • Treatment and maintenance of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

  • Management of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and other hypersecretory conditions

  • Healing and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers

  • Relief of nausea, vomiting, bloating, and gastric fullness associated with delayed gastric emptying

  • Treatment of erosive esophagitis and acid-related upper gastrointestinal symptoms

How it works

  • Esomeprazole (40 mg, enteric-coated): Prevents acid secretion by irreversibly blocking the proton pump (H+/K+ ATPase) in stomach parietal cells. The enteric coating protects the drug from stomach acid, allowing absorption in the small intestine.

  • Domperidone (30 mg, sustained release): Blocks dopamine receptors in the gastrointestinal tract and chemoreceptor trigger zone, enhancing gastric motility and accelerating gastric emptying, which reduces nausea and vomiting. The sustained-release formulation provides prolonged action.

Together, they reduce acid-related damage and improve gastric motility, alleviating symptoms such as heartburn, nausea, and bloating.

Benefits

  • Potent and sustained reduction of gastric acid secretion

  • Promotes healing of erosive esophagitis and peptic ulcers

  • Improves symptoms of GERD, including heartburn and acid regurgitation

  • Enhances gastric emptying, reducing nausea, vomiting, and bloating

  • Improves overall gastrointestinal comfort and quality of life

How to use

  • Take one capsule daily, preferably 1 hour before a meal (usually before breakfast) on an empty stomach for optimal absorption.

  • Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water; do not crush, chew, or open it.

  • If prescribed with antibiotics (e.g., for H. pylori eradication), take as directed by your doctor.

  • Consult your doctor before taking other medications to avoid interactions, especially antacids or other acid reducers.

  • Do not exceed the prescribed duration; prolonged use requires medical supervision.

Side Effects

Common side effects (usually mild and transient):

  • Dry mouth

  • Stomach pain or discomfort

  • Diarrhea or constipation

  • Headache

  • Flatulence (gas)

Rare but serious side effects (seek medical attention):

  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

  • Irregular heartbeat or palpitations

  • Signs of low magnesium (muscle cramps, tremors, dizziness) with prolonged use

  • Persistent diarrhea or blood in the stools

Safety Advice

  • Avoid alcohol consumption during treatment as it can increase stomach acid and worsen symptoms.

  • Inform your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney problems, or electrolyte imbalances.

  • Disclose all medications and supplements to avoid drug interactions (e.g., avoid nelfinavir, rilpivirine with esomeprazole).

  • Report alarm symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, difficulty swallowing, or black stools immediately.

  • Maintain hydration and a balanced diet to help manage side effects like diarrhea or dry mouth.

Storage Conditions

  • Store capsules at a temperature below 30°C (86°F) in a cool, dry place.
