Nimesulide Tablets 100 mg IPNimesulide Tablets 100 mg IPNimesulide Tablets 100 mg IP

Product Description

Nimesulide Tablets 100 mg IP belong to a class of painkillers called Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), specifically a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor. It is used for short-term relief of acute pain and dysmenorrhea (painful periods or menstrual cramps).

It is also indicated for dental pain due to nerve damage, infection, decay, extraction, or injury. Nimesulide is not recommended for chronic conditions or long-term use due to risks of hepatotoxicity (liver damage). In India, it is restricted to adults and children over 12 years, with a maximum duration of 15 days.

Uses

Nimesulide 100 mg Tablets are indicated for short-term (up to 15 days) treatment of acute pain (mild to moderate, e.g., musculoskeletal pain, postoperative pain), Dysmenorrhea (painful menstrual cramps), and Dental pain (e.g., from inflammation or injury). It is not suitable for chronic pain, fever as monotherapy, or gastrointestinal pain (e.g., stomach aches, which may indicate ulcers).

How it works

Nimesulide 100 mg Tablets contain nimesulide, which selectively inhibits the COX-2 enzyme, reducing the production of prostaglandins—chemical messengers responsible for pain, inflammation, and fever. Unlike non-selective NSAIDs, it has less effect on COX-1 (which protects the stomach lining), potentially lowering gastrointestinal side effects, but it still carries risks.

Benefits

Nimesulide 100 mg Tablets provide rapid relief from mild to moderate acute pain and inflammation, including menstrual and dental pain.

It acts within 30–60 minutes, with effects lasting 6–8 hours, making it suitable for short-term symptomatic management when combined with rest or other therapies.

It may improve mobility and quality of life during acute episodes, but should not replace addressing underlying causes.

How to use

Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water. Do not chew, crush, or break it to avoid irritation. Mouth-Dissolving Tablet (if applicable) Place on the tongue and allow it to dissolve completely before swallowing; no water needed.

Dispersible Tablet (if applicable) Dissolve in the prescribed amount of water (e.g., 50–100 mL) as per label instructions, stir well, and drink immediately. Take with food or milk to minimize stomach upset, and avoid an empty stomach if possible. Adults—100 mg twice daily (maximum 200 mg/day). Do not exceed the recommended dose or duration (≤15 days).

For dysmenorrhea, start at symptom onset. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered unless near the next dose; do not double up. Consult a doctor for dose adjustments in elderly patients, renal/hepatic impairment, or children >12 years (50 mg twice daily).
