Product Description
Pantoprazole 40 mg (Enteric Coated) & Levosulpiride 75 mg (Sustained Release) Capsules IP belong to a group of medicines called gastrointestinal agents.
This fixed-dose combination is used to treat gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), acidity, indigestion, heartburn, and peptic ulcers.
GERD occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the oesophagus (food pipe), causing irritation, acidity, and heartburn. Peptic ulcers are sores that develop on the inner lining of the stomach or intestines due to excess acid or H. pylori infection.
Uses
Pantoprazole 40 mg & Levosulpiride 75 mg Capsules are indicated for the symptomatic treatment of: Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD)/Acidity and heartburn/Indigestion (dyspepsia)/Peptic ulcers (gastric or duodenal)/Functional dyspepsia or non-ulcer dyspepsia. They are typically used short-term (4–8 weeks) for erosive esophagitis or ulcer healing, and may be combined with antibiotics for H. pylori eradication.
How it works
This combination capsule contains two active ingredients: Pantoprazole (a proton pump inhibitor, PPI) and Levosulpiride (a prokinetic agent).
Pantoprazole irreversibly blocks the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme (gastric proton pump) in the parietal cells of the stomach, reducing gastric acid secretion by up to 99% and promoting healing of acid-related damage.
Levosulpiride, a selective dopamine D2 receptor antagonist, enhances gastrointestinal motility by increasing acetylcholine release in the enteric nervous system.
It strengthens the lower oesophageal sphincter (LES) pressure, accelerates gastric emptying, and prevents reflux of acid and food into the oesophagus.
Together, they reduce acid production while improving motility, providing comprehensive relief from reflux symptoms, acidity, and indigestion.
Benefits
Pantoprazole 40 mg & Levosulpiride 75 mg Capsules effectively treat acid reflux, indigestion, and heartburn caused by excess stomach acid or impaired motility.
They are particularly beneficial for patients experiencing symptoms after meals, at night, or when lying down.
By lowering acid levels and enhancing esophageal clearance, this combination helps heal esophageal damage in GERD, reduces ulcer recurrence, and improves quality of life.
It is especially useful in functional dyspepsia, where both acid suppression and prokinetic effects are needed.
How to use
Take one capsule once daily, preferably 1 hour before a meal (e.g., breakfast) on an empty stomach for optimal pantoprazole absorption.
Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water; do not chew, crush, or open it, as this can damage the enteric coating (leading to acid degradation of pantoprazole) or disrupt the sustained-release mechanism of levosulpiride.
Continue for the full prescribed duration (usually 4–8 weeks), even if symptoms improve. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered unless it's close to the next dose; do not double up. Dosage adjustments may be needed in elderly patients or those with hepatic impairment; always follow your doctor's instructions.

Safety Advice
Avoid alcohol, as it stimulates gastric acid production, worsens GERD symptoms, and may increase dizziness or gastrointestinal side effects.
Use only if clearly needed (FDA Pregnancy Category B for pantoprazole; limited data for levosulpiride).
Potential risks include fetal harm from dopamine antagonism; consult your doctor to weigh benefits vs. risks. Insulin or alternative therapies may be preferred.
Pantoprazole passes into breast milk in small amounts; levosulpiride may cause hyperprolactinemia and affect milk production.
Avoid or consult a doctor; monitor infants for side effects. Causes dizziness or drowsiness; use caution while driving/operating machinery until you know its effects.
Storage Conditions
Store at a temperature below 86°F (30 °C). Protect from light and moisture.
FAQs
Can I lie down after having a meal?
Avoid lying down immediately after meals to prevent acid reflux. Raise the head of the bed 10-20cm by putting a pillow so that the head and chest are above the waist. This helps in preventing acid reflux.
Does Pantoprazole 40mg & Levosulpiride 75 mg Capsule cause bone fractures?
Pantoprazole 40mg & Levosulpiride 75 mg Capsule contains pantoprazole, which might increase the risk of osteoporosis (weak and brittle bones). This mainly occurs in people taking higher doses of Pantoprazole 40mg & Levosulpiride 75 mg Capsule for longer durations. Your doctor may prescribe calcium and vitamin D supplements if you are at risk of osteoporosis.
Is it safe to take Pantoprazole 40mg & Levosulpiride 75 mg Capsule for longer durations?
Do not take Pantoprazole 40mg & Levosulpiride 75 mg Capsule for longer durations unless prescribed by the doctor. Talk to your doctor if you do not find symptomatic relief.
