Product Description

Paracetamol Tablets IP 650 mg belong to the group of medicines called analgesics (pain relievers) and antipyretics (fever reducers).

They are used to reduce fever and relieve mild to moderate pain, including headaches, migraines, toothaches, period pain, back pain, muscle aches, and rheumatic pain.

Paracetamol works centrally in the brain without significant anti-inflammatory effects, making it suitable for pain without inflammation.

Uses

Paracetamol 650 mg Tablets are indicated for fever reduction (antipyretic) and Mild to moderate pain relief (analgesic), such as headaches, dental pain, menstrual cramps, musculoskeletal pain, or postoperative discomfort.

How it works

Paracetamol inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX) in the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord), reducing the production of prostaglandins—chemical messengers that sensitize pain receptors and promote fever.

It also acts on the hypothalamus (the body's heat-regulating center) to lower the set point for body temperature, resulting in reduced fever without causing excessive sweating or vasodilation.

Benefits

Paracetamol 650 mg Tablets provide effective, rapid relief from fever and mild to moderate pain, typically within 30–60 minutes, with effects lasting 4–6 hours.

As a well-tolerated option with minimal gastrointestinal side effects compared to NSAIDs, it is suitable for most adults, including those with stomach sensitivity.

It improves comfort during acute episodes and is safe for short-term use when dosed correctly, supporting daily activities without sedation.

How to use

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; it can be taken with or without food at any time of day. Do not crush, break, or chew the tablet, as this may alter absorption or cause irritation. For oral liquid forms (if applicable): Shake the bottle well, measure the dose using the provided cup, syringe, or dropper, and take it by mouth. Dosage-Adults and children ≥12 years—650 mg every 4–6 hours as needed, maximum 4 g (4 tablets) per day.

Do not exceed the recommended dose to avoid liver toxicity. For fever, use only while elevated; for pain, use for the shortest duration. If a dose is missed, take it when remembered unless near the next dose; do not double up. In elderly patients, those with liver/kidney issues, or low body weight, start with lower doses (e.g., 500 mg) and consult a doctor for adjustments.

Side Effects

Paracetamol is generally well-tolerated at therapeutic doses, with rare side effects. Common mild effects (affecting <1% of patients) include:

  • Nausea

  • Stomach pain or discomfort

  • Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling)

  • Dark-colored urine (may indicate liver involvement)

  • Jaundice, fatigue, or confusion (signs of hepatotoxicity)

Safety Advice

Avoid alcohol while taking paracetamol, as it significantly increases the risk of severe liver damage (hepatotoxicity) by depleting glutathione stores. Generally considered safe in Pregnancy, use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration. Consult your doctor, as high doses may affect fetal development. Breastfeeding is Safe in recommended doses; small amounts pass into breast milk without harming the infant. Monitor for rash or drowsiness. Use with caution or avoid severe hepatic impairment (e.g., cirrhosis) or active liver/kidney disease; dose reduction needed. Inform your doctor for monitoring (e.g., liver/kidney function tests).

Storage Conditions

Store at a temperature below 86°F (30 °C). Protect from light and moisture.
