Rabeprazole Gastro Resistant Tablets 20 mg IPRabeprazole Gastro Resistant Tablets 20 mg IPRabeprazole Gastro Resistant Tablets 20 mg IP

Product Description

Rabeprazole Gastro Resistant Tablets 20 mg IP belongs to a group of antiulcer medicines called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), used to treat conditions such as duodenal ulcers, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD, or reflux of gastric contents into the oesophagus), heartburn, erosive oesophagitis (acid-related damage to the lining of the oesophagus), infections caused by Helicobacter pylori (when given with antibiotics), and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (a condition with excessive stomach acid production).

Rabeprazole works by inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme in the stomach's parietal cells, reducing acid secretion and helping to heal and prevent damage to the gastrointestinal lining.

Uses

  • Treatment of Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

  • Treatment of Duodenal Ulcers

  • Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome

  • Management of Erosive oesophagitis and H. pylori infections (in combination with antibiotics).

How it works

Rabeprazole Gastro-Resistant Tablets 20 mg IP contains Rabeprazole, a PPI that works by blocking the action of the gastric proton pump (H+/K+ ATPase enzyme) in the stomach wall. This enzyme is responsible for acid production, so inhibiting it reduces the amount of acid secreted, thereby alleviating symptoms and promoting healing of acid-related conditions.

Benefits

Rabeprazole Gastro-Resistant Tablets 20 mg IP effectively reduces stomach acid, providing relief from symptoms like heartburn and acid regurgitation in GERD, and aiding in the healing of ulcers and erosive esophagitis. It is particularly beneficial for conditions involving excessive acid production, as it helps prevent complications such as oesophagal damage or bleeding. When used as an adjunct to antibiotics, it supports the eradication of H. pylori, improving overall gastrointestinal health and quality of life.

How to use

Take Rabeprazole Gastro Resistant Tablets 20 mg IP approximately 30 minutes before a meal, as directed by your doctor, for better effectiveness. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not crush, break, or chew it, as the gastro-resistant coating ensures proper release in the intestine. Follow the prescribed dosage and duration to achieve optimal results.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Rabeprazole Gastro Resistant Tablets 20 mg IP may include:

  • Headache

  • Dizziness

  • Diarrhea

  • Constipation

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Flatulence (wind)

  • Weakness

These side effects are usually mild and temporary. Long-term use may rarely lead to more serious issues, such as bone fractures, vitamin B12 deficiency, or increased risk of infections. If side effects persist, worsen, or include symptoms like severe abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss, or allergic reactions (e.g., rash or swelling), consult your doctor immediately.

Safety Advice

  • Alcohol: Avoid or limit alcohol consumption while taking Rabeprazole Gastro Resistant Tablets 20 mg IP, as it can increase stomach acid production and irritate the lining, potentially reducing the drug's effectiveness and worsening symptoms like heartburn. Consult your doctor for advice.

  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Rabeprazole is classified as a Pregnancy Category B drug, meaning animal studies show no risk, but there are limited human data. It should be used during pregnancy only if the benefits outweigh the risks and under medical supervision. It may pass into breast milk, so discuss with your doctor before use if breastfeeding.

  • Other Precautions: Use with caution in patients with liver impairment, as dosage adjustments may be needed. For kidney disease, it's generally safe, but inform your doctor of any history. Long-term use should be monitored for potential risks like magnesium deficiency or bone issues. Inform your doctor of all medications, as interactions can occur (e.g., with digoxin or anticoagulants). This medicine is not suitable for everyone, so follow professional guidance.

Storage Conditions

Store at a temperature below 86°F (30 °C). Protect from light and moisture.
