Torasemide Tablets IP 5mgTorasemide Tablets IP 5mgTorasemide Tablets IP 5mg

Product Description

Torsemide Tablets IP 5 mg are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and edema (a build-up of fluid in the body). Hypertension is a chronic condition characterized by increased force of blood pushing against artery walls. Edema may occur due to fluid retention in tissues such as the hands, arms, feet, ankles, and legs, leading to swelling.

Uses

  • Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure)

  • Treatment of edema caused by heart, liver, kidney, or lung conditions

How it works

Torsemide works by inhibiting the sodium-potassium-chloride (Na-K-2Cl) symporter in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle in the kidneys. This action increases the amount of urine produced, helping the body get rid of excess fluid. Reducing fluid volume decreases swelling (edema) and lowers the workload on the heart, making it more efficient at pumping blood. This helps to reduce high blood pressure and lowers the risk of cardiovascular events such as a heart attack or stroke.

Benefits

  • Reduces swelling caused by fluid retention in various medical conditions

  • Lowers high blood pressure by decreasing fluid volume and cardiac workload

  • Helps prevent complications related to hypertension, including heart attack and stroke

How to use

Take Torsemide Tablets IP 5 mg exactly as prescribed by your doctor. You can take it with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not chew, crush, or break it. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dosage and frequency based on your medical condition.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

  • Low blood pressure (hypotension)

  • Dehydration

  • Headache

  • Dizziness or confusion

  • Muscle cramps or weakness (often due to low potassium or magnesium levels)

  • Fast or irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia)

  • Electrolyte imbalances such as low potassium (hypokalemia) and low magnesium (hypomagnesemia)

If side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor promptly.

Safety Advice

  • Avoid alcohol during treatment, as it may increase side effects such as dizziness or low blood pressure.

  • Use with caution if you have liver disease, as sudden electrolyte imbalances can lead to serious complications such as hepatic coma.

  • Torsemide should only be used during pregnancy if clearly needed; consult your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

  • Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels is important during treatment.

Storage Conditions

Store at a temperature below 86°F (30 °C). Protect from light and moisture.
